Paquete22Image via WikipediaIn 2010 Disney Corporation (DIS) earned $6.73 billion dollars in gross revenue, an increase in total earnings from 2009. Disney is one of the top 100 companies in the United States and the world, so its shipping costs should be well managed. Typical U.S. businesses spend between 3 and 5 percent of their gross income on freight, according to Dan Goodwill and Associates (http://blogdg.ctl.ca/2010/02/facing_the_challenges_of_freig.html). 

For companies of Disney’s size, the annual spend would fall between 200 and 330 million dollars, a sizeable sum and a large percentage of Disney’s $1.48 billion dollar operating costs.

Three Failed Assassination Attempts

Mussolini (left) and Hitler sent their armies ...Image via WikipediaThere have been many sad and deadly assassinations over the years from the assassination of Kennedy to King but there have also been attempts on lives that have failed and more often than not for the better. Let’s take a look at some of the failed assassinations that shook the world.


We go back to 1981 with this one and this adds to the massive number of attempts and successes of the various Presidents of the United States lives. Fortunately in this case Reagan survived and the most likely cause of this is because the criminal was completely insane. An interesting fact is that Reagan is actually the first ever president to survive being shot in an assassination attempt.

Colorado state welcome sign, along Interstate ...Image via WikipediaIt is no secret that the most desirable places to live are also among the most expensive.  Want to enjoy the good life in New York City?  You’ll have to pay more than double what you pay elsewhere for rent or to purchase a home.  A night out or a trip to the grocery store can give your wallet quite a shock. 

The cost of living can rise as a place rises in popularity.  Just think of those artsy New York neighborhoods that once drew creative types and young professionals because of their cheap rents.  Loft apartments there now cost thousands to rent and millions to own.

With the latest polls showing a Republican takeover of the House and the Senate in the upcoming Midterm elections, it's quite funny to have just read Dylan Loewe's new book Permanently Blue. The book describes how the Democrats will have the ability to hold both the Presidency and Congress for the next 24 years, based on a variety of factors. 

If only Loewe had had a time machine, he could've seen how quickly his book would be proven wrong, and avoided writing the thing altogether.

Photos of Niagara Falls Without Water Found

For a period of time in 1969, no water fell over Niagara Falls. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers had built a massive dam further upstream to divert the flow exclusively to the Canadian side in order to remove loose rock and strengthen faults on the American side. It was predicted that, given time, changes in how the water flowed endangered the U.S. side altogether. As a result, the goal was to promote conservation of the falls by reducing the amount of erosion the falls were sustaining. Although the temporary dam was dynamited in November of 1969, restoring the original flow, there were a few months where engineers, trucks, and heavy machinery moved over the bare riverbed instead of water.

Although the event was documented somewhat, there are only a limited number photographs of the occasion in existence. Last year, however, Russ Glasson of Connecticut found a bunch of 35mm slides taken by his in-laws.
