As Christmas is only 63 Days 13 Hours and 28 Minutes away (here in the UK) we have been discussing................well actually arguing about how Santa's/Father Christmas/St. Nicolas' Costumer came to be red.
There is lot's of different reasons as to why this may be, but the only two that seem to have a lot of literature backing this up are
:
1) Coca-Cola - It has been said that Coca-Cola invented the white beard and red costume as they are the colors used to promote the Coca-Cola brand. The first red Santa emerged in the 1920s with shopping-related ads in magazines like The Saturday Evening Post.
2) Christian Faith - It has also been said that the christian faith is what influenced the red and white themed Santa, as this is supposed to be a symbol of God's greatest gift, as this teaches the children that Christ gave His life and shed His blood for them that they might have eternal life. When they see the color red, it should remind them of that most wonderful Gift
We would like to know what everyone else thinks about this, and which one they believe is true and why, please take this opportunity to comment, this can be done by clicking the title, and you can do this anonymously if you wish
